Silver plated Walker & Hall Pride pattern four piece tea set designed by David Mellor. The pride tea set designed by David Mellor was produced by Walker and Hall of Sheffield and was first recorded in their design ledger on 11. March 1957(Sheffield city archives). It went into full production around 1957/58 and went on to win a Design Centre award soon after. The award was presented to the then Managing Director Peter Inchbald by The Duke of Edinburgh. This set consists of teapot and hot water pot, each with pull-off lid and composition handle and finials, cream jug and sugar bowl. The Walker and Hall mark together with pattern no 53722 is stamped on the base of each piece. Note -The sugar bowl in this set is of the rarer type as it has the handles fitted. This was an optional that could be added at extra cost. This is a heavy set the teapot and water pot each weighing approx 750 grams, creamer 250grams and sugar 300 grams. Total weight approx 2.05 Kilos. Teapot height 14 cm (5.5 inches), Water pot height 17 cm (6.75 inches), creamer and sugar height both 7.5 cm (3 inches). Condition In very good condition with no dents or knocks. Both pots are very clean inside suggesting the set has only ever been a display item. Very close inspection will show up the usual minor scuff marks mainly as a result of cleaning and polishing. On the inside/underneath of the lids are very minor indents as is often the case.
